MONROVIA โ The House of Representatives (HOR) has initiated an investigation into the lease of Unification Park (PHP Park) amid growing concerns over transparency and financial accountability.ย
Montserrado County District 8 Representative Prince A. Toles raised questions about the agreement, noting that the park was constructed using US$2million in national budget funds and a US$5 million grant from the United Arab Emirates.
Representative Toles said despite such significant public investment, the park has been leased to a private entity, Green Park Management Service, under terms that remain unclear.ย
The Contracts, Monopoly, and Public Accounts Committee has been tasked with reviewing the lease.
Key government institutions, including the Monrovia City Corporation, the Ministry of State, Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Public Works, will be invited to provide details on the arrangement.ย
Lawmakers are seeking clarity on who signed the lease and under what conditions, how lease payments are being handled, and whether provisions exist for local job creation and community benefits.ย
The probe underscores concerns about the management of public assets, reinforcing the need for accountability and transparency to ensure the deal serves the best interests of the people of District #8 and Liberia as a whole.
