
MONROVIA – The House Committee on Hydrocarbon, chaired by Hon. Sam P. Jallah, Representative of Bomi County Electoral District #3, on Wednesday held a successful acquaintance meeting with key stakeholders in the hydrocarbon sector.
The engagement brought together officials from the Ministry of Public Works, the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC), and the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority (LPRA).
The session was convened to establish a platform for collaboration and strengthen coordination between the legislative committee and institutions operating within Liberiaโs hydrocarbon and infrastructure sectors.
Speaking during the meeting, Chairman Jallah emphasized the importance of proactive collaboration in ensuring transparency, accountability, and development across the sector.
He noted that the Committee is committed to engaging constructively with sector stakeholders to fulfill its constitutional mandate of oversight and legislative responsibility.
Each participating institution provided a briefing on their respective functions, programs, and operational activities, offering the Committee a clearer understanding of their roles and ongoing initiatives.
In outlining the Committee’s roadmap and oversight priorities for the current legislative period, Hon. Jallah stressed the Committeeโs intent to actively engage with stakeholders through the following mechanisms:
Open path of communication
Information sharing and transparency
Specialized hearings (legislative and investigative)
Review of reports and key documents
Summoning institutions to explain government actions and ensure compliance with laws and budgets
Evaluation of actions, policies, and decisions
Monitoring and scrutiny of sector operations
Questioning and inquiry into sectoral matters
Budgetary scrutiny
Oversight visits and field assessments
Chairman Jallah concluded by affirming the Committeeโs dedication to effective legislative oversight, grounded in collaboration, transparency, and accountability, to ensure that the hydrocarbon sector contributes meaningfully to national development.
