MONROVIA โ The National Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Commission, in collaboration with key government agencies and stakeholders, today launched the first joint major WASH Compliance Monitoring exercise. The initiative is designed to improve access to safe water and sanitation services across the country.

Mr. George W.K. Yarngo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National WASH Commission, described the launch as a landmark moment in the national effort to enhance public health and service delivery standards. โThis initiative goes beyond compliance; it seeks to foster a culture of excellence that respects every citizenโs right to clean water and adequate sanitation,โ Mr. Yarngo stated. He called on partners, service providers, and community members to fully support the exercise and work collectively toward achieving universal WASH access.
Speaking on behalf of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Mr. Amos Gborie emphasized that water safety is essential to disease prevention and overall public health. โWe monitor disease trends weekly, and those trends help us understand the kind of water people are consuming,โ Mr. Gborie said. He reaffirmed NPHILโs commitment to the initiative, noting that the institute has deployed a vehicle and a team of technicians to support the exercise.

The Executive Director of the WASH Commission, Mr. Morris Gono Jr, also addressed the gathering. He extended heartfelt thanks to the management of Aqualife for graciously hosting the launch ceremony, commending their dedication to improving water safety and service delivery. In addition, Gono expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Finance for their crucial support in making the exercise a reality, noting that such backing reflects a strong national commitment to public health and regulatory excellence. The ED further emphasized, โWeโre not in this to close down water companies or any other facilities, but weโre in this to make sure that the regulations are met.โ He announced that the exercise will last for 23 working days.
The launch brought together a wide range of institutions and stakeholders, including the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Ministry of Health (MOH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Liberia National Police, demonstrating a united front in promoting regulatory compliance and protecting public health.
