Seat of Liberian Legislators

MONROVIA – The House of Representatives has instructed its joint committee on Public Works, Investment and Concessions, Ways, Means and Finance, and Internal Affairs to investigate the deteriorating condition of the St. John Bridge, a critical infrastructure linking Bong and Grand Bassa Counties.

A statement issued Thursday, June 26, 2025, by the Houseโ€™ Press Bureau says, plenaryโ€™s decision was triggered by from Bong County District 1 Representative, Prince Koinah.

Representative Koinah emphasized the bridgeโ€™s strategic importance not only as a commuter route for residents of Bong and Grand Bassa but also as a key pathway supporting ArcelorMittal Liberiaโ€™s ore transport to Buchanan.

According to him, the bridge has become a death trap, with multiple fatalities reported due to its unsafe condition.

The lawmaker stressed that despite the bridgeโ€™s economic and social significance, no substantial intervention has been made to restore it.

Meanwhile, the joint committee is expected to probe whether concessionaires operating in the area have fulfilled their obligations regarding infrastructure support pending report to plenary.
