MONROVIA – The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Public Works, Hon. Roland Giddings, to appear along with his technical team before full plenary on Tuesday to explain the circumstances surrounding his ministryโ€™s stop-order on the construction of the Jor River Bridgeโ€”a project intended to provide an alternative route for commuters between Ganta, Monrovia, and Gbarnga.

The decision followed a communication from Bong County Electoral District #3 Representative, J. Marvin Cole, who expressed concern that the ministryโ€™s action could stall development efforts and negatively impact citizens of the region.

According to Cole, the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has secured funding of over US$500,000 for the bridge project, which aims to address a four-decade infrastructural challenge that has caused significant transportation difficulties and loss of lives in the area.

He further emphasized that the matter must be addressed swiftly to avoid what he termed as the โ€œweaponization of government functionariesโ€ and urged his colleagues to prioritize the welfare of citizens over politics.

The House is expected to hear from Minister Giddings and his team during next Tuesdayโ€™s sitting.
