MONROVIA โ The Plenary of the House of Representatives has approved a bill granting township status to the rapidly growing community of Soul Clinic in Montserrado County Electoral District #4.
The approval was made during the 9th day sitting of the 2nd Quarter of the 2nd Session held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, following a report from a Joint Committee on Internal Affairs, Good Governance and Judiciary.
The proposed legislation, submitted by Representative Michael Thomas of District #4, received broad support from his colleagues. Rep. Thomas highlighted Soul Clinicโs significant population growth and expanding infrastructure as key justifications for the upgrade in status.
According to the Representative, Soul Clinic is now home to more than 45,000 residents, with the area covering between 5 and 50 square kilometers, depending on population density. The community boasts:
* Over 15 churches and two mosques, with an estimated 90% Christian population;
* More than 20 public and private schools, including one university and five vocational institutions;
* Over 10 health clinics, one police depot, and five active marketplaces;
* Established access to electricity and clean water.
Rep. Thomas emphasized that granting township status would enhance governance, service delivery, and community development. The bill, when enacted, will formally recognize the area as the โTownship of Soul Clinic,โ a body politic and corporate under the laws of Liberia.
The Plenary has instructed the Chief Clerk of the House to transmit the engrossed bill to the Liberian Senate for concurrence, in keeping with legislative procedures.
This legislative milestone reflects the Houseโs commitment to ensuring that rapidly growing communities receive the recognition and resources necessary to support their continued development.
