Pres. Boakai recieving first set of chairs

MONROVIA – The Executive Mansion says, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has received the first set of school chairs produced under his “One Child, One Chair” Presidential Initiative, financed through proceeds from salaries blocked following the suspension of government officials who failed to comply with the national assets declaration mandate.

In February 2025, President Boakai suspended approximately 400 government officials for noncompliance with the legal requirement to declare their assets. In keeping with its statutory mandate, the Civil Service Agency (CSA) blocked one month’s salary of the affected officials.

The President subsequently directed that the blocked salaries be applied to the production of school chairs to support improved learning conditions for Liberian children.

The first batch, comprising 525 high-quality metal and wooden chairs, was produced locally by the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC).

At a presentation ceremony, the chairs were formally turned over to President Boakai, who then officially handed them over to the Minister of Education for distribution to schools.

The initiative reflects a practical approach to public accountability, redirecting resources toward tangible national benefits while strengthening local production and skills development.

Meanwhile, the Government of Liberia extends profound appreciation to the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS), and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) for their effective institutional collaboration in supporting the successful implementation of this initiative.

‘The “One Child, One Chair” Presidential Initiative remains focused on ensuring that schoolchildren across Liberia have access to basic classroom furniture, contributing to a more conducive learning environment nationwide,” the Executive Mansion concluded its statement.
