LFA expanding women's football

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has taken another significant step in developing women’s football by expanding its nationwide Women’s Football Campaign to Margibi County.

A total of 610 girls between the ages of 6 and 12 gathered in Kakata to take part in the grassroots festival, as the wave of inspiring female footballers continues to spark interest and excitement among young school-aged girls across the country.

The Margibi event follows the official launch of the campaign in Montserrado County on 28 November, as well as a successful rollout in Gbarnga, Bong County, on Friday, 5 December. Each phase of the campaign has attracted large participation, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for girls’ football at the grassroots level.

The initiative is supported by FIFA through the FIFA Women’s Football Development Programme and is designed to ignite a passion for the sport, increase participation, and empower the next generation of female athletes across Liberia.

The campaign is a key component of the LFA Women’s Football Strategic Plan, falling under the Grassroots and Youth Football Development pillar known as LITTLE PHENOMS, which focuses on early engagement and long-term player development. Following Margibi, Rivercess and Sinoe counties are next in line to benefit from the expanding women’s football campaign.
