Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti and Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX

DAVOS, Switzerland — Liberia’s investment credentials received a significant global lift this week after senior representatives of SpaceX publicly praised the country’s reform momentum and pledged to actively promote Liberia as an emerging destination for international investment.

The endorsement followed high-level engagements between SpaceX and the Liberian delegation on the margins of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos—marking Liberia’s first-ever participation in the prestigious forum that convenes the world’s most powerful political and economic actors. Liberia’s presence at Davos is being widely viewed as a milestone in the country’s re-entry into top-tier global economic diplomacy.

During discussions with Liberia’s Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs, a SpaceX representative—speaking on behalf of a company widely valued at about US$800 billion—described Liberia as one of the most efficient and forward-looking countries the firm has recently engaged. The official cited the speed, clarity, and high-level political commitment demonstrated during Liberia’s licensing and engagement process with the American technology giant.

According to the SpaceX official, Elon Musk himself was “blown away” by how swiftly Liberia moved from engagement to execution, crediting the hands-on leadership of Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, for cutting through bureaucratic bottlenecks and aligning strategic investments with national development priorities.

Beyond words of praise, the SpaceX representative committed to “blowing Liberia’s horn” across U.S. and global corporate circles—encouraging multinational firms to reassess the country through the lens of reform, responsiveness, and opportunity. The official characterized the country as a “new Liberia,” one whose transformation is increasingly visible to major global investors.

Further reinforcing the message, Minister Nyanti later shared additional details from the engagement in a public Facebook post, thanking SpaceX and Afreximbank for speaking in support of Liberia during the Davos roundtable. “Economic diplomacy is strongest when your current investors and partners can speak for you,” she wrote.

The Foreign Minister disclosed that the discussions extended beyond Davos to meetings at X headquarters, where she met directly with Elon Musk and senior executives. Photographs from the meeting—shared publicly for the first time—symbolized a growing rapport between Liberia and one of the world’s most influential technology ecosystems.

These engagements build on earlier contacts, including a direct 2024 call between President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Elon Musk focused on digital connectivity, technology, and innovation-driven development. Officials say the continuity of dialogue reflects Liberia’s deliberate strategy to court frontier investors capable of accelerating private-sector-led growth.

Observers note that the combined endorsement from SpaceX and Afreximbank sends a strong signal to global markets that Liberia’s reform agenda is credible, validated by existing partners, and increasingly competitive. As Liberia marks its historic debut at Davos, the SpaceX engagement stands out as a defining moment—positioning the country not as a peripheral economy, but as a serious and emerging partner in Africa’s evolving investment landscape.
