MONROVIA, Liberia – The Civic Engagement National Identity and Visioning (CENIV) Mandate area of the Governance Commission is making strides in providing visibility, as well as scouting collaborative supports with foreign partners operating in Liberia.

One of such efforts was the recent meeting held with the Embassy of Ireland, near Monrovia.

The meeting was intended to explore opportunities to foster collaboration with the Governance Commission (GC), particularly under the CENIV mandate area and to solicit potential financial support for key activities.
According to the commissioner with oversight responsibility for the Civic Engagement mandate area of the Governance Commission, Mrs. Cytirus K. Kerbay, deepening partnerships with foreign governments and other institutions to advance inclusive governance can never be overemphasized. She highlighted ongoing engagements with civil society organizations (CSOs) and provided updates on the Liberia National History Project as a flagship national initiative requiring strategic support if it must be achieved.

In response, the Irish Embassy expressed interest in providing direct support to the Liberia National History Project through the Africa Strategic Innovation Fund, subject to further engagement and proposal development.

Though the first of its kind since efforts to revitalize the Liberia National History Project kicked off, the recent meeting further sought to enhance the existing reputation and values of the Governance Commission, build a stronger partnership between the Commission and the Irish Embassy with emphasis on civic education initiatives in collaboration with civil society organizations (CSOs) and to ensure success of the Liberia National History Project (LNHP).

As it stands, efforts are underway to identify specific areas of collaboration and engage relevant stakeholders to advance joint initiatives and funding opportunities.
