Augustine being murdered by these Ghanaian barbarians

ACCRA, Ghana / MONROVIA, Liberia – Tension has surged within Liberian and Ghanaian communities after the brutal death of a young Liberian man in Accra, Ghana. But amid rising fear and anger, a group of Ghanaian gymnasts and community members have publicly appealed for calm and justice, urging both nations not to let the tragedy escalate into broader diplomatic or ethnic unrest.

Liberian Man Dies After Mob Attack in Lashibi

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Augustine “Austin” Tengbeh, a Liberian national who was reportedly beaten to death by a mob in Lashibi, near the Sakumono area of Accra, Ghana on Friday, February 27, 2026. Police say the incident began after Tengbeh was mistakenly accused of theft while visiting a friend’s residence.

According to a statement from the Accra Regional Police Command, responding officers found him gravely injured and rushed him to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ghanaian police confirmed that three suspects – Vincent Adzikah (38), Francis Amuzu (44), and William Addison (34) – have been arrested and are assisting with investigations. A fourth individual, Enoch Mensah, remains at large as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend him.

The victim’s body has been deposited at the Lashibi Funeral Home pending autopsy and further legal processes. Ghanaian police have cautioned the public against “mob justice,” stating such acts undermine due process and community safety.

Liberian Community in Ghana Shocked, Seeking Answers

Shocked relatives and friends of Tengbeh have called for thorough investigation and accountability. In emotional social media posts, his sister described him as a peaceful, hard-working young man whose life was unfairly cut short. She lamented the circulation of distressing videos related to his beating, which have since traumatized family members.

Another eyewitness account suggested that well-intentioned security warnings by the caretaker of the residence may have spiraled out of control, drawing a crowd that turned violent before police could secure the scene.

Ghanaian Gymnasts and Citizens Call for Calm

In a powerful response, a group of Ghanaian gymnasts — who had personal connection or friendship with Austin — publicly appealed for calm and respect for the rule of law. They emphasized that the actions of some individuals should not be mistaken for the attitudes of the wider Ghanaian community. Austin was known among his gym colleagues as “OG Squeeze”.

“These moments demand justice, not more violence,” one gymnast said, calling on both Liberians and Ghanaians to stand together in seeking accountability through lawful channels. Local sports figures condemned the killing while underscoring longstanding cultural ties between the two West African neighbors.

Although the exact motive and dynamics of the assault are still under investigation, the gymnasts’ message was clear: justice must be pursued without igniting ethnic tensions or retaliation.

Official and Diplomatic Response

The Government of Liberia, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that its Embassy in Accra has been actively engaged with Ghanaian authorities since the incident was reported and has been working to ensure transparent investigations and consular support for the bereaved family.

Officials reiterated that Liberia respects the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries and trusts that Ghanaian law enforcement will carry out its duties impartially.

Liberians living and working in Ghana have been urged to continue cooperating with local authorities and to report any credible information that may assist investigations.

A Call for Justice

As investigations progress, both communities in Ghana and Liberia continue to mourn the loss of a young life. The arrest of suspects is seen as a key initial step toward justice, but civil society advocates on both sides of the border have called for a complete and transparent legal process to ensure accountability.

Amid apparent shock and sadness, the larger message by Ghanaian friends, gymnasts, and community leaders has been consistent: seek justice through due process, uphold peace, and honor the dignity of human life.
