Former President of the Liberia Football Association and Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe

Former President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr., has applauded the leadership of current LFA President Mustapha I. Raji for what he described as remarkable strides in transforming Liberian football.

Snowe made the commendation in an interview with Intel Sports following the LFA Extraordinary Congress held on Sunday, February 22, 2026. The event also marked his first visit to the LFA headquarters since its construction  a moment he described as both surprising and deeply reflective.

“It is surprising to me that since the construction of this headquarters, this is my first time visiting,” Snowe remarked.

Standing inside the modern facility, Snowe said he was struck not only by the physical infrastructure but by the broader institutional progress within the Football Association.

“I can’t help but honestly commend the leadership of the LFA,” he said. “I’m extremely impressed not just about the infrastructure, but even the levels of organization, the decorum, and the atmosphere. They all show professionalism.”

A Journey Spanning Nearly Three Decades

Snowe’s reflections carried historical weight. In 1997, at just 27 years old, he assumed the presidency of the LFA after succeeding former FA boss Willard Russell.

He went on to serve for seven years, leading the association during a period marked by limited resources but bold ambition.

Nearly 29 years later, returning to the FA headquarters stirred emotions of pride and accomplishment.

“I sat down and reflected on where I came from, where we came from, to where we are,” Snowe said. “Coming today to see the migration  how much the system has improved, the levels of clubs, and the investment the Football Association is making  I’m extremely impressed.”

Foundations That Shaped the Present

During his tenure, Snowe spearheaded efforts to modernize Liberian football, including the installation of artificial turf at the ATS and strengthening regional football structures across Liberia’s counties  initiatives undertaken despite financial constraints at the time.

He also recalled the powerful words of guidance from Willard Russell during the leadership transition:

“You are very young only 27 years old and you are taking over the FA. Please do me a favor: if you cannot uplift the LFA, please don’t drop it. Keep it the way you met it.”

According to Snowe, the current progress demonstrates that successive administrations have not only preserved the institution but elevated it.

He acknowledged the contributions of past LFA presidents, including Izetta Wesley and Musa Bility, noting that the present administration has successfully built upon foundations laid over the years.

“Today, the Raji Administration has built on what Izetta Wesley left and what Musa Bility left. I’m extremely impressed,” he stated.

A Unified Football Family

Snowe concluded by extending personal appreciation to President Raji and the broader football community for their commitment to professional growth and institutional reform.

“I want to personally say thanks to President Raji and the entire LFA family for a job well done,” he added.

His endorsement signals a rare moment of unity across generations of Liberian football leadership a testament to the steady evolution of the game in Liberia and a hopeful sign for its future trajectory.
