The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) has officially commenced preparations for the 2026 Intra-Governmental Tournament (IGT) with its first planning meeting held recently at the Ministry’s headquarters in Monrovia.

Speaking on behalf of Minister Cornelia W. Kruah, Deputy Minister for Sports, G. Andy Quamie, welcomed representatives from participating ministries and agencies and thanked them for their continued dedication to the annual competition.

Deputy Minister Quamie emphasized the importance of addressing challenges encountered during the previous edition, particularly the issue of contractors participating without direct affiliation to their respective institutions. He noted that such practices undermine the integrity and credibility of the tournament and urged all institutions to ensure strict compliance with participation guidelines.

Also addressing attendees, Assistant Minister for Sports V. Murvee Gray encouraged stakeholders to view the Intra-Governmental Tournament as more than just a sporting event. He described it as a valuable platform for fostering unity, collaboration, and stronger working relationships among government institutions.

According to Minister Gray, the tournament creates a rare opportunity for junior staff and senior officials to engage in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere, strengthening bonds beyond office environments.

He further disclosed that the 2026 edition will introduce new features, with a total of sixty-seven (67) government ministries and agencies expected to compete in four sporting disciplines. The registration fee remains set at US$750, with a deadline of March 20, 2026. The next planning meeting is scheduled for March 13, 2026.

The Intra-Governmental Tournament remains one of the Ministry’s flagship initiatives aimed at promoting wellness, teamwork, and institutional collaboration across Liberia’s public sector.
