FDA Housing in Konia, Zorzor, Lofa County

Zorzor, Lofa County – In a landmark initiative aimed at bolstering wildlife conservation and forest preservation in Lofa County, the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) has officially inaugurated a new building complex designated for both office and residential use for its personnel in the Konia region of Zorzor District. This significant project was made possible through the generous funding of the European Union (EU), which contributed approximately USD 400,000 to the endeavor.

The dedication ceremony was attended by a host of distinguished dignitaries, including Lofa County Superintendent Lavela Massaquoi, EU representative Mr. Stephan Cocco, and Madam Nora Bowier from the FDA. The event also saw the participation of Madam Mary Moloksu from Fauna & Flora, Zorzor District Commissioner Mr. Paul Kalama, and various local leaders, all of whom gathered to celebrate this pivotal development for the region.

During the ceremony, speakers underscored the pressing challenges that the FDA faces in its mission to protect the region’s wildlife and conserve its rich forests. Madam Bowier articulated the EU’s steadfast commitment to collaborating with the people of Lofa County, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in these conservation efforts.

Superintendent Massaquoi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the EU and all partners involved for their invaluable investment in Lofa County’s environmental stewardship. He urged the local community to take ownership of the newly established facilities, ensuring they are used for their intended purpose and maintained properly. He called upon Commissioner Kalama and local chiefs to oversee the facility diligently, reinforcing the need for community vigilance in safeguarding the environment.

The establishment of the FDA Wonegisi outpost represents a crucial step forward in enhancing environmental protection efforts in Lofa County. It fosters a collaborative approach between international partners and local stakeholders, promoting sustainable development and conservation efforts in Lofa County and throughout Liberia.
