MONROVIA – In a significant move to bolster the fight against HIV and AIDS in Liberia, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has presented a donation of US$50,000 and two brand new pickups to the National AIDS Commission.
The Liberian leader said the initiative aims to strengthen the Commission’s efforts in achieving the ambitious 95-95-95 target by the year 2030, which seeks to ensure that 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% of those diagnosed receive sustained antiretroviral therapy, and 95% of those on treatment achieve viral suppression.
The announcement was made during the launch of the National AIDS Commission’s Annual Fundraising Dinner for 2025, an event designed to raise essential funds for the ongoing battle against HIV/AIDS in Liberia.

The fundraising efforts have become increasingly critical following the drawdown of support from USAID, which has traditionally played a vital role in financing HIV/AIDS programs in the country.
President Boakai emphasized the importance of collective action in the fight against the virus, stating, “We must work together to ensure that we not only meet the 95-95-95 targets but also improve the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS in our communities.”
He urged the private sector and civil society to join in the fight, highlighting that resources are crucial for effective outreach, education, and treatment programs.

The National AIDS Commission expressed gratitude for the President’s generous contribution, noting that the funding and vehicles will significantly enhance their operational capacity, enabling them to reach more vulnerable populations across the country.
Dr. Cecelia J. Nuta said the annual dinner is about raising fund to help support the budget of the Commission in the fight against HIV and AIDS throughout Liberia.
She said Liberia continues to grapple with the impacts of HIV/AIDS, initiatives like fundraising dinner are vital in ensuring that progress is made towards a healthier future for all citizens.

According to her government, alongside various stakeholders, remains committed to combatting the epidemic and improving health outcomes for those living with the virus.
The National AIDS Commission’s Annual Fundraising Dinner 2025 was held under the Theme: “Mobilizing Domestic Resources to Strengthen Coordination, Monitoring, and Oversight of Liberia’s HIV Response.”
