–Prosecutors Challenge Validity of Bail Surety, Seek Re-Arrest of Former Government Official
MONROVIA – Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice has scheduled a hearing for June 23, 2026, in the ongoing corruption case involving former Deputy Minister and Chief of Protocol Nora Finda Bondo and several co-defendants accused of a range of financial crimes.
The hearing, which is set for 9:00 a.m., will be presided over by Judge Ousman F. Feika and is expected to focus on a dispute surrounding the validity of a US$435,560 criminal appearance bond previously filed by Madam Bondo.
The outcome of the hearing could determine whether the former government official remains free on bail or faces re-arrest pending the submission of a new bond.

Prosecution Challenges Property Bond
According to a Notice of Assignment issued by the court, the case involves the Republic of Liberia, acting through the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force (AREPT) and the Ministry of Justice, against Nora Finda Bondo and several other individuals.
The defendants are facing multiple charges, including money laundering, theft of property, misuse of public money, criminal conspiracy, forgery, and criminal facilitation.
Court records indicate that Bondo previously secured her release through a criminal appearance bond valued at US$435,560, which was approved by the court.
However, prosecutors have since filed formal exceptions challenging the adequacy and legality of the bond.

AREPT and the Ministry of Justice argue that the valuation and structure of the property presented as surety do not satisfy legal requirements, particularly given the gravity of the allegations contained in the indictment.
As a result, the prosecution is seeking a judicial review of the bond and has asked the court to order Bondo’s re-arrest pending the submission of a bond that fully complies with the law.
Motion to Justify Surety
The June 23 hearing will specifically address a Motion to Justify Surety, a legal proceeding in which a defendant must demonstrate that the assets pledged as security for bail are genuine, properly valued, and sufficient to guarantee his or her appearance before the court.
Legal experts note that such hearings are common when prosecutors challenge the legitimacy, ownership, or value of property used to secure a defendant’s release.

In this case, the dispute centers on whether the property submitted by Bondo meets the legal standards required for a criminal appearance bond.
The court is expected to hear arguments from both the prosecution and defense before determining whether the bond should remain in force or be revoked.
High-Profile Corruption Case
The case is among several high-profile corruption matters currently before Liberia’s courts and forms part of broader efforts by the Boakai administration to pursue accountability and recover assets allegedly lost through corruption and financial misconduct.
The indictment reportedly implicates several individuals linked to business entities operating in the transportation, mining, and commercial sectors, adding to the significance of the proceedings.

Court Orders Parties to Appear
Judge Feika has directed all parties and their legal representatives to appear before the court on the scheduled date.
The court has also instructed the assigned sheriff to ensure proper service of the notice on all parties and to file proof of service in accordance with judicial procedures.
Legal observers say the court’s ruling following the hearing will determine the future status of Bondo’s bail and could influence the next phase of the prosecution.
With both sides preparing for arguments, the June 23 hearing is expected to be closely watched as the corruption case continues to unfold.
