MONROVIA, Liberia — Registration is now open for the 2026 Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference, as organizers prepare to bring together Liberians from across the world for a three-day gathering focused on converting diaspora engagement into investment, innovation and measurable national development.
The conference is scheduled for September 24–26, 2026, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, with regional viewing hubs, under the theme “From Dialogue to Delivery: Diaspora Capital, Innovation, and the Future of Liberia.”
The 2026 gathering represents the second edition of the Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference and marks a deliberate shift from the inaugural conference’s emphasis on reconciliation, national healing and reconnecting Liberians abroad with their homeland toward implementation, investment and measurable outcomes.
According to the conference organizers, this year’s agenda will focus on mobilizing diaspora capital and enterprise, advancing technology and innovation, and supporting sustainable development across key sectors of the Liberian economy.
From Dialogue to Delivery
The organizers say the new theme reflects a determination to move beyond conversations and translate commitments made by Liberians at home and abroad into concrete initiatives.
The 2026 conference is expected to address a broad range of issues, including diaspora investment and capital, innovation and technology, agriculture and agribusiness, healthcare, education and skills development, governance and diaspora voting, women and youth empowerment, county-level development, trade, tourism and the creative economy.
Reconciliation, peace and national healing will also remain part of the broader conference agenda.
The conference website describes the gathering as a platform designed to unite policymakers, entrepreneurs, investors, development leaders and members of the global Liberian community around practical solutions for the country’s future.
Building on 2025 Momentum
Organizers are building on the reported success of the inaugural 2025 conference, which they say attracted more than 700 in-person delegates, 1,358 virtual participants and representation from 43 countries.
The organizers also report more than 350,000 cumulative streams and views, reflecting the growing reach of diaspora-focused national development discussions.
The first conference produced several initiatives that organizers say are now helping shape the 2026 agenda, including the establishment of a Senate Diaspora Council, expanded diaspora engagement and efforts to develop structured investment mechanisms.
The Office of Diaspora Affairs has also described the conference as part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen institutional links with Liberians abroad and encourage diaspora participation in national development.
Boakai to Serve as Chief Convener
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. is listed as the Chief Convener and Keynote Speaker for the 2026 conference.
In a message published by conference organizers, President Boakai described the inaugural gathering as a historic opportunity that brought together policymakers, community leaders, investors, scholars and Liberians from around the world to consider ways of rebuilding and advancing Liberia.
For the 2026 edition, the President said the focus should be on turning shared commitments into measurable action, particularly through diaspora capital, enterprise, innovation and technology.
The conference is also aligned with the administration’s broader Diaspora Strategic Plan 2024–2027 and the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, according to previous announcements from the Office of Diaspora Affairs.
High-Level Planning Structure
Preparations for the conference have been underway for several months.
The Office of Diaspora Affairs earlier announced a National Steering Committee led by Ambassador Emmett Dunn as Chairman, with Ambassador MacDella Cooper serving as Vice Chair and Rev. Dr. Francis O. S. Tabla as Vice Chairman for Operations.
The planning structure brings together government institutions, diaspora organizations, private-sector representatives, civil society and international partners, including the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations Development Programme.
Head of the Office of Diaspora Affairs Erasmus Tiampa Williams has characterized the conference as an important platform for strengthening collaboration between Liberia and its global diaspora.
A Larger Role for the Diaspora
The conference comes amid a broader effort by the Boakai administration to reposition Liberians abroad as strategic partners in national development rather than primarily as sources of remittances.
The Office of Diaspora Affairs has emphasized investment, skills transfer, entrepreneurship and stronger institutional engagement as central components of its diaspora strategy.
The 2026 conference website says the goal is to build on the momentum of the first gathering by moving toward “measurable action” and creating practical opportunities for diaspora capital, expertise and enterprise to contribute to Liberia’s development.
The shift is also reflected in the conference’s investment-oriented programming, with organizers offering sponsorship and exhibition opportunities to businesses and institutions seeking to engage with the Liberian diaspora and national development agenda.

With registration now underway, organizers are encouraging Liberians and friends of Liberia around the world to secure participation in the September gathering.
The event is expected to attract participants from North America, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and other regions, continuing what organizers describe as a growing global platform for Liberian dialogue, investment and collaboration.
