MONROVIA โ The House of Representatives has enacted three laws granting township status to Kamatahun, Massambolahun, and Langbamda within the Wanhassa Administrative District in Lofa County.
This decision was made during the 6th day sitting of the 2nd Quarter of the 2nd Session of the 55th Legislature on Thursday, May 29.
The establishment of these townships is aimed at improving governance and addressing significant challenges faced by residents due to the long distances between different locations.

The Houseโs Joint Committee on Judiciary, Internal Affairs, and Ways, Means, and Finance conducted investigations that revealed a tendency among residents to take the law into their own hands, often avoiding judicial processes and facing economic exploitation.
The report underlined that the new township statuses are expected to create job opportunities and delegate essential judicial, socio-economic, and political responsibilities to facilitate better governance.
Representative Julie Fatorma Wiah, the billโs sponsor, was noted as a key resourced person in justifying the need for establishing these townships.
The committee also conducted fiscal impact analyses and met with stakeholders to ensure informed recommendations concerning the proposal.
According to the findings, the creation of these townships will enhance judicial accessibility, social governance, and economic development in the region, ultimately benefiting the local populace.
During her recent address to a team of journalists at the Capitol Building, Rep. Wiah expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her fellow lawmakers for their diligent efforts in advancing the legislation from the committee room.
She highlighted the collaborative spirit and commitment displayed by her colleagues, which played a pivotal role in bringing the bill to the forefront of legislative discussions.
Rep. Wiah emphasized the importance of the bill and its potential impact on the community, outlining the goals it aims to achieve.
She encouraged continued dialogue and engagement among stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the billโs implications.
In her remarks, Wiah also acknowledged the vital role of the media in informing the public and fostering transparency around legislative processes. She urged journalists to continue their critical work in covering the billโs progress and its significance to the constituents they represent.
As the legislative session progresses, Wiah reaffirmed her dedication to advocating for the bill and collaborating with her fellow lawmakers to see it through to successful enactment. She reiterated that the collective hard work and determination of all involved in the process underline the commitment to serving the needs of the community effectively.
