MONROVIA – The Liberian National Union (LINU) has taken note of the recent allegations and subsequent arrest of Representative Jacob Debee of Grand Gedeh County District #3 in connection with the reported attempted arson at the Capitol Building. While we acknowledge the seriousness of the allegations, we call for a fair, impartial, and speedy investigation, one that allows all the facts to be fully established and shared transparently with the Liberian people.

LINU is one of Liberia’s oldest established political institutions, with an unbroken presence since 1997. Over the course of nearly three decades, we have never been associated with violence, lawlessness, or any action that undermines the peace and stability of our nation. We remain committed to democratic values, peaceful political engagement, and respect for the rule of law.
Representative Jacob Debee has served with distinction and integrity, demonstrating consistent leadership and a deep commitment to the development and empowerment of his constituents. He has built a reputation as a calm, thoughtful, and responsible public servant, traits that stand in stark contrast to the nature of the accusations now before him.

We therefore urge the Liberia National Police and all relevant authorities to conduct this investigation with professionalism, free from political influence or public bias. It is essential that justice is pursued not only swiftly, but fairly, ensuring that the rights of all individuals involved are protected and that truth, not speculation, guides the outcome.
LINU stands in defense of due process and will continue to advocate for transparency, accountability, and the preservation of the democratic ideals that are the foundation of our Republic.
