Gbarma, Gbarpolu County – In demonstration of leadership by example, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. today called on all Liberians to unite in uplifting the agriculture sector, as he harvested fish from his fish farm in Gbarma, Gbarpolu County.
Speaking during the harvest event, President Boakai emphasized the urgent need for more Liberians to return to the soil and embrace agriculture as a foundation for national development, food security, and sustainable livelihoods. “Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy. If we are serious about reducing poverty, improving nutrition, and creating jobs, we must harness our natural resources and take pride in producing what we eat,” the President declared.
The President’s visit to his farm is part of his broader agenda to promote agricultural productivity and rural development under the ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism.

By showcasing the viability of fish farming, President Boakai aims to inspire a new generation of agripreneurs and encourage private sector investment in Liberia’s rich but underutilized agricultural sector.
President Boakai was joined by local leaders, community members, and officials of government , who praised his commitment to agricultural revitalization not just in words, but in action while making purchases of the fish.
“Our country is blessed with fertile land, abundant water resources, and hardworking people. What we need now is a collective mindset shift,”he noted. The Liberian Chief Executive assured that, “Government will continue to create the enabling environment, but every citizen must get involved.”
“Whether it’s rice, cassava, vegetables, or fish, we can grow Liberia from the ground up,” the President concluded.
The event marks another step in the Boakai Administration’s drive to shift Liberia from dependency to self-sufficiency by turning agriculture into a profitable and sustainable enterprise that contributes meaningfully to GDP growth and national development.
