Monrovia – The Liberia Intellectual Property Office (LIPO) and the Manufacturer Union of Liberia (MaUL) have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the second edition of the Intellectual Property Management Clinic (IPMC) Project.
This important initiative aims to advance the role of intellectual property (IP) as a tool for innovation, competitiveness, and inclusive growth among Liberian startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Manufacturer Union will serve as the lead implementer of the project, while LIPO will provide technical guidance and oversight. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and is expected to directly benefit 100 participants from across the country.
Signing on behalf of the Liberia Intellectual Property Office, Director General Hon. Garmai Koboi underscored the importance of the IPMC project in building a culture of IP awareness among entrepreneurs. She urged the Manufacturer Union to ensure that participants are adequately equipped with both business and intellectual property knowledge, and emphasized the need for efficient and accountable implementation of the project.
Mr. Newton Woyeh, President of the Manufacturer Union of Liberia, signed on behalf of the Union and expressed gratitude to LIPO for the confidence and trust reposed in the organization. He reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to ensuring a successful rollout of the IPMC initiative and pledged to deliver meaningful outcomes for all beneficiaries.
This renewed partnership aligns with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and reflects a shared vision to empower local businesses through intellectual property education and practical capacity-building.
