MONROVIA – The House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature of the Republic of Liberia has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the work of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), emphasizing the critical role the regional body plays in advancing democratic governance, regional integration, and sustainable development.
Speaking during the opening session of the ECOWAS Delocalized Joint Committee Meeting currently in Monrovia on Monday, June 16, 2025, the Chairman on Executive of the House of Representatives Sekou Kanneh stressed the importance of the Committee’s deliberations, noting that its outcomes have direct implications on the socioeconomic future of the West African region.
“We want to make it unequivocally clear that the Liberian Legislature, under the leadership of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, stands firmly with ECOWAS in its efforts to promote economic growth, peace, and stability across member states,” the Chairman declared.
He noted that the Joint Committee Meeting—focusing on macroeconomic policy, fiscal accountability, youth empowerment, and job creation—could not have come at a more relevant time, as regional governments seek to navigate post-COVID recovery, geopolitical pressures, and the rising demands of young populations.
“The deliberations of this gathering are of regional significance. We believe they will serve as a policy compass that can shape inclusive and prosperous futures for all West Africans,” he added.
The House of Representatives pledged to work closely with Liberia’s ECOWAS Parliamentary Delegation to ensure the timely implementation of recommendations and frameworks arising from the Monrovia session.
The ECOWAS Delocalized Meeting continues through June 20, 2025, and brings together lawmakers, technical experts, and observers from across the sub-region to examine shared challenges and chart practical solutions.
