House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon bidding farewell to Guinean President of the National Transitional Council, Dr. Dansa Kourouma

MONROVIA – Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has concluded a successful two-day official visit to the Republic of Guinea. The visit, which began on Monday, aimed to bolster parliamentary diplomatic relations between Liberia and Guinea.

During his stay, Speaker Koon met with several high-ranking Guinean officials, including the President of the National Transitional Council, Dr. Dansa Kourouma. A major highlight of their discussions was the proposal for the establishment of a Mano River Union Parliamentary Body, intended to enhance legislative cooperation among member states.

Talks were described as fruitful, with a follow-up meeting scheduled to take place in Monrovia next month, bringing together parliamentary heads from all MRU countries.

The Speaker and his delegation were also given a tour of an ambitious construction project in central Conakry. The project includes a new parliamentary complex, a modern city hall, and an Olympic stadiumโ€”each reflecting the Guinean governmentโ€™s commitment to infrastructural transformation.

Speaker Koon also paid a visit to the Liberian Embassy in Conakry, where he met with staff led by Ambassador Forkpa Gizzie. Embassy staff presented several challenges facing the mission. In response, Speaker Koon reaffirmed the Legislatureโ€™s dedication to addressing these concerns and enhancing the welfare of Liberiaโ€™s foreign missions.

On Wednesday, Speaker Koon held a high-level meeting with Guinean Prime Minister Bah Oury. Their discussion centered on strengthening bilateral relations and fostering closer ties between Liberia and Guinea, particularly through the framework of the Mano River Union.

The Liberian legislative delegation returned to Monrovia on Thursday, having successfully completed the official mission.

Accompanying the Speaker were Representative Nekher Gaye, Chair on Foreign Affairs, Representative Austin Taylor, Chair on Maritime, Representative Samson Wiah, Co-Chair on Maritime

The visit marked a significant step in deepening parliamentary diplomacy and regional collaboration among Mano River countries.
