MONROVIA – In light of his recent suspension by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, and the public discussion that has arisen as a result, I feel it is crucial to address you directly and clarify my position on this matter.
“Firstly, I fully support the President’s decision to initiate a transparent investigation into the allegations concerning my tenure. Transparency is fundamental to good governance, and I am committed to cooperating fully and transparently with all inquiries. I have nothing to conceal.”
According to him, the concerns raised by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) pertain to a project that was awarded in 2023—before he assumed the role of Acting Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA).
The GAC report indicates that the previous LTA board did not adhere to the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) procedures when they awarded a contract to Tamma Corporation, a company he founded. This compliance issue has led to his name being associated with the matter.
“I want to be emphatically clear: I did not award any contract to myself or my company during my time as Acting Chairman. The project in question was initiated long before my leadership. At that time, I was a private businessman providing legitimate services, contracted by a recognized public institution under standard practices. While I stand ready to provide full details regarding my company, I cannot address the decisions made by the leadership prior to my appointment. I believe in due process and will fully cooperate accordingly.”
Kamara said during his time at the LTA, his actions had been grounded in integrity as he worked to expand access to telecommunications, ensure fair regulation, and promote innovation for the benefit of all Liberians, particularly the youth. “My conscience remains clear. My public record is accessible, verifiable, and speaks for itself. My goal now is to vindicate my name and maintain my reputation.”
He appreciated President Boakai for his leadership and his commitment to accountability. He said he respects the authority of the Executive and recognizes the importance of fostering public trust in the country’s national institutions.
“In a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law, I, Abdullah L. Kamara, respectfully urge the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to investigate the allegations presented in the recent GAC report regarding the LTA during my service.”
He went on to say that Liberia’s fight against corruption needs to be impartial, objective, and devoid of political interference or delays. He indicated that ‘Justice delayed is justice denied,’ and it is crucial that this matter is resolved quickly and transparently.
“My request for this investigation is both a legal obligation and a moral imperative. I wholeheartedly recognize and support the roles of our integrity institutions, believing that their independence and credibility are vital for strengthening our democracy and ensuring effective governance. This period serves as a crucial test of our nation’s commitment to fairness, justice, and institutional accountability.”
The suspended LTA boss reiterated his willingness to fully cooperate with the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), the Ministry of Justice, or any competent legal authority in pursuit of the truth. “Liberia deserves public servants who are ready to stand before the law, as well as institutions that operate impartially and without bias.”
“I remain steadfast in my commitment to ensuring that truth, accountability, and justice prevail—not just for the sake of my reputation, but for the integrity of Liberia’s governance processes.
“I humbly urge that this investigation proceed fairly, free from prejudice, and in adherence to the presumption of innocence that is guaranteed to all Liberians under the law.”
