Bong County Representative Moima Briggs Mensah

Bong County Representative Moima Briggs Mensah has posted on her Facebook page that she would be compelled to break rank with embattled House Speaker, Counselor Jonathan Fonati Koffa, if he fails to obtain a quorum during session.

In her “Setting the Record Straight” she wrote: Speculation steams unnecessary rumors and confusion. I am committed to transparency and truth.

At present, I am in The Gambia attending an official ECOWAS event. Upon conclusion, I will proceed to Cape Verde to participate in the Annual Meeting of the WAHO Financial Support Steering Committees of ECOWAS Member States.

I hold the Honorable Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia in the highest esteem and will fully abide by its decisions. However, I must also make it clear: I am duty-bound to sign in favor of the removal of the Court-recognized Speaker, Hon. Jonathan Koffa, should he fail to produce a quorum; since it’s clear, that he has loss the moral authority over majority members of the house for what so ever reasons.

For too long, the first branch of government and our decentralized representation have been seen as unserious and as mere troublemakers. I am committed to changing this narrative.

As the Rule of Law writes proposal for the conclusion of the impasse, and as the “Majority Block” seeks court redress, I must clarify and make my position known:

No individual, no institution, and no government is above the will and interests of the people and if you ask me what the interest of the people is, my answer would be: It’s a well-functioning, transparent and Law-abiding Legislature

It is time to restore the honor, dignity, and seriousness of the Legislature. I encourage all legislative colleagues, that together let’s reclaim the respect we deserve as true representatives of the people!”
