Sen Tyler cutting ribbon to the bus stop

–Questions Expenditure of Legislative Project Funds

BOMI COUNTY – The people of Bomi County, particularly those residing in Klay Electoral #1in the Government Farm community, have questioned the construction of a Bus Stop by Bomi County Senator Alex Jenekai Tyler intended to provide shelter for commuters.

Though the construction cost of the bus stop has not been made public, lawmakers of the various counties are allotted monies in the national budget for them to implement projects in their respective counties and electoral districts in consultation with their constituents. And so, on September 11, 2025, Bomi Senator and Klay Electoral District #1 Representative, Obediah Varney jointly dedicated a bus stop for usage by residents of Government Farm community in the district, which was constructed by Senator Tylor.

According to Senator Tyler, the bus stop is intended to provide shelter for commuters while enroute to their respective destinations in and outside of the district, but the project has come under scrutiny from residents of the area.

In a collective voice, a huge number of residents of Government Farm community described the bus stop project as an affront to the people of Bomi County, especially those residing in Government Farm community who are the direct beneficiaries. One resident of Government Farm community who preferred anonymity for fear of reprisal, stated that he does blame Senator Alex Tyler for such a mediocre bus stop project after receiving thousands of dollars for legislative projects but rather blames the people of Liberia for consistently electing recycled individuals with questionable reputations.

Another resident said it now time that their lawmakers account for legislative project funds allotted to their lawmakers for projects in their respective counties and electoral districts. “These lawmakers will use the allotted legislative project funds for personal gains and only come to erect mediocre structures which they think are good for us. This has to stop.”

It can be recalled several lawmakers from Nimba, Bassa and others have come under scrutiny for constructing substandard infrastructure projects, including market building, bus stops, flag pole hoisting stands, among others in the name of bringing relief to their constituents.

These lawmakers are accused of misapplying legislative funds allotted in the national budget for their constituents benefits for personal gains, a situation they have frowned on several occasions have called for audit of the Legislature.

The latest bus stop project dedicated by Bomi County Senator Alex Tyler and Rep. Obediah Varney is the latest of such mediocrity in regards to legislative projects being implemented by lawmakers as the expense of Liberian tax dollars.
