Nimba County – The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Biago, has issued a passionate appeal to the people of Nimba County, urging them to take ownership and actively support the agency’s efforts to combat the growing threat of illicit drugs in Liberia.
Addressing a large gathering, DCP Biago reminded citizens that the fight against drugs is not the sole responsibility of the LDEA, but a shared national duty that demands strong community participation. He emphasized that without community involvement, Liberia cannot achieve its vision of becoming a drug-free nation.
“The fight against drugs is not only for the LDEA. It is for every Liberian. Communities must get involved, provide information, and stand with us if we are to save our future generations from the danger of drugs,” he stressed.
DCP Biago disclosed that officers recently linked to the unlawful release of a drug suspect in Nimba will face the full weight of the law, underscoring his administration’s zero-tolerance stance against misconduct and corruption. He lamented the poor performance ratings of LDEA officers in the county, but assured the public that those undermining the agency’s credibility “will have no place in the LDEA.”
Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, he called on religious leaders, motorcycle operators, business owners, traditional authorities, and ordinary citizens to strengthen their support to the agency. He announced that the LDEA will soon roll out a reward system for citizens who provide reliable intelligence leading to the arrest of traffickers and distributors.
DCP Biago further revealed that several policy reforms are being put in place to rebrand the LDEA and restore public confidence in its operations.
This fight cannot be won by law enforcement alone. It requires every community, every parent, every leader, and every youth to play their role. Together, we can build a drug-free Liberia,” he added. The engagement in Nimba is part of the LDEA’s broader community outreach strategy under its new leadership, designed to rebuild trust, strengthen collaboration, and mobilize citizens as partners in the fight against drugs.
