MONROVIA – The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) teamed up with the Friends of 70s, 80s & 90s organization on Saturday to carry out a large-scale clean-up campaign in Central Monrovia, as part of efforts to give the city a refreshed and welcoming look.
Led by Lord Mayor John Charuk S. Siafa, MCC staff and volunteers combed the streets to remove litter and promote awareness about the importance of keeping Monrovia clean. The initiative was part of the city’s First Saturday Cleanup Exercise, a routine program that encourages residents to stay home while sanitation teams focus on cleaning public spaces.

Mayor Siafa emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in maintaining a clean city. “A clean city is a safe and healthy city. Every resident has a role to play in waste management and environmental stewardship,” he said, urging citizens to actively support ongoing efforts.
The clean-up also served as a public education campaign, highlighting the negative effects of littering and promoting sustainable waste management practices. Residents were informed about the upcoming Intergovernmental Agency Cleanup Taskforce, which will enhance city sanitation efforts and strengthen long-term waste management strategies. The collaboration with Friends of 70s, 80s & 90s reflects MCC’s commitment to partnering with community organizations to instill civic pride and ensure Monrovia remains clean and orderly. The exercise aims not only to beautify the city but also to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among Liberians.
