The US officials have said that a visa is not a right but a privilege
MONROVIA — The United States Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery for 2027 has not yet opened, contrary to widespread rumors circulating in Monrovia and on social media.

According to information from the U.S. Department of State, the official registration period for the DV-2027 program will open later this October 2025 and run for about one month through early November.

This year’s process comes with a new $1 electronic entry fee, introduced to curb fraud and multiple submissions. The U.S. government says the fee is the only legitimate charge required to submit an entry, and no payments should be made to individuals or private agents.

Officials have warned Liberians to avoid fake websites and scams, stressing that the only official platform for registration is dvprogram.state.gov.

Liberia remains eligible for participation in the 2027 DV Lottery, which offers 55,000 immigrant visas to qualified applicants from countries with low immigration rates to the United States.

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or two years of skilled work experience and should retain their unique confirmation number after applying to check results later.

Immigration experts in Monrovia are urging Liberians to be patient and “wait for the official U.S. announcement before applying.”

The DV Lottery — known locally as the “Green Card Lottery” — continues to attract thousands of hopeful Liberians each year, many viewing it as a life-changing opportunity.
