The Liberia Kickball Federation (LKF) has postponed its much-anticipated official trip to Sierra Leone due to insufficient financial support from both the Government of Liberia and private sector partners.
According to a release from the Federation, extensive preparations had been made for the trip, which aimed to strengthen regional sports cooperation, provide Liberian athletes with international exposure, and promote Liberia’s homegrown sport—kickball—on the global stage. However, the lack of funding, estimated at around US $7,000, forced the postponement.
The planned visit also sought to highlight women’s empowerment and youth development through sports, underscoring how kickball continues to transform lives and communities across Liberia.
Despite sustained engagement with relevant stakeholders, the LKF said the financial resources required to execute the mission were not secured in time.
“We deeply regret this postponement, as it was an important opportunity to showcase Liberian talent and promote our national sport, kickball, to the world,” LKF President Mr. Emmanuel Suprise Whea said in a statement.
He added: “Kickball is a symbol of women’s strength, teamwork, and resilience. It has become a unifying force for Liberian youth and a source of pride for our nation. We remain hopeful that with stronger support, this dream will soon be realized.”
The Federation clarified that the trip has not been cancelled entirely but merely rescheduled pending further arrangements. Discussions are ongoing with potential sponsors and partners to ensure the visit takes place at a later date.
