LEC's Acting Managing Director, Mohammed Sheriff

Monrovia — The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), through its Acting Managing Director, Mohammed Sheriff, has issued a strong warning against the growing rate of power theft across the country emphasizing that if anyone is caught engaging in power theft, they will face serious legal consequences.

Speaking on the OK Morning Rush program on Monday, May 5, 2025, Sheriff outlined the LEC’s plans to improve the energy sector nationwide.

He stressed that Liberia has long struggled with electricity access due to years of civil conflict, stating it’s time to act in accordance with the government’s Arrest Agenda.

The MD noted that although most of the country’s electricity is generated from hydropower, many areas still lack service and rely on costly and inefficient diesel generators.

He added that ongoing efforts aim to expand electricity access and reduce dependence on such alternatives.

“Load shedding will become a thing of the past only if customers keep their electricity meters funded and stop engaging in power theft,” Sheriff stated.

He also emphasized the importance of reliable electricity for national development, highlighting its critical role in healthcare, education, economic growth, and overall quality of life.

“Liberia can overcome its electricity challenges only if collaboration is prioritize with the government, international partners and other private investors LEC Boss highlighted. As an institution we are committed to providing consistent power to a larger portion of Liberia’s population,” he concluded.
