Draft budget sent to Ways, Means and Finance Committee

Members of the House of Representatives have unanimously voted to refer the Draft National Budget for Fiscal Year 2026 to the Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance for detailed scrutiny and analysis.

The Committee, chaired by Maryland County Electoral District #1 Representative Hon. P. Mike Jury, will lead the review process. He is to be assisted by Hon. Dorwohn T. Gleekia, Co-Chair for Revenue, and Hon. Atty. Michael Thomas, Co-Chair for Expenditure.

In the coming days, the Committee, in collaboration with the Legislative Budget Office (LBO), is expected to release a comprehensive schedule for revenue and expenditure hearings.

These hearings will provide an opportunity for line ministries, agencies, and public corporations to justify their budgetary allocations and outline implementation priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. The referral marks the beginning of the Legislatureโ€™s constitutionally mandated budget scrutiny process, aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment of national priorities with the Governmentโ€™s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
