MONROVIA –In a tragic incident that unfolded late on Friday night, a devastating fire swept through the Shara Community along Duport Road, claiming the lives of several residents, including the community’s beloved Chairlady, Mrs. Deiode Davies Garnett.
The fire broke out around 11:00 PM and rapidly engulfed Mrs. Garnett’s residence, drawing the attention of neighbors who rushed to the scene to offer assistance. Despite their swift efforts and the prompt response from the Liberia Fire Service, the flames spread quickly, reportedly trapping several occupants inside the house.
Eyewitness accounts reveal a harrowing scene as residents attempted to rescue those caught in the blaze. Local residents expressed their shock and disbelief as they gathered near the scene, witnessing the fire rage uncontrollably. “It was a nightmare,” one neighbor recounted. “We tried to help, but the fire was too intense. We could hear screams from inside.”

Initial reports indicate that after the fire was extinguished, the remains of the Chairlady and three other individuals were discovered unresponsive within the residence. However, authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of the victims.
As the investigation continues, local officials have confirmed that at least one body has been recovered from the scene, but it has not yet been verified whether it belongs to Mrs. Garnett or another resident.
In the wake of this tragedy, the Liberia National Fire Service and the Liberia National Police have initiated investigations to determine the cause of the fire, which has not yet been established as of Saturday morning. Preliminary findings have not ruled out possibilities, and authorities are diligently working to gather more information.
