Kapa Kulono

Monrovia – On Wednesday, May 7, the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, officially launched a new Government Town Hall Initiative.

The “Kapa Kulono”, which is a Kpelle language for “Come, Let’s Talk”, is an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between the government and citizens. Kapa Kulono is design to create a platform for officials to explain government achievements, listen to citizens’ concerns, and collaboratively find solutions.

Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan and the Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority Dorbor Jallah made history as the first two panelists of the initiative.

The inaugural town hall was held under the theme: “Smart Spending, Shared Growth: Building an Inclusive Liberia under the AAID,” with the subtitle: “Transforming Budget and Policies for Equitable Progress.”

During the discussion, Minister Ngafuan and Commissioner General Jallah spoke on a range of key issues including the AAID framework, current budget allocations, revenue mobilization and fair taxation, support for small businesses, and the role of citizen feedback in shaping future spending.

The event drew a large and diverse crowd—elders, youth, students, market women, and dignitaries—who filled the Ballroom of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex.

Many praised the initiative as a meaningful step toward government transparency and inclusivity.

Attendees actively engaged with the panelists, asking questions and receiving direct responses.

The Ministry has announced that the next Government Town Hall will take place in Nimba County.
