The Liberian Senate has called on theย General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct an Audit into an alleged mismanagement of World Bank project – in the amount of US$200 million.
โ The plenary through Pro Tempore Karnga Lawrence, in it’s 53rd day sitting – Tuesday, November 24, 2025 – instructed the secretary of the Senate to officially communicate it’s mandate to the GAC – calling for a conduct of an immediate audit in the World Bank funded project.
โThe Senate decision to called on the GAC for an audit – comes after Margibi County Senator Nathaniel F. McGill, reminded the Senate on his communication dated March 13, 2025, calling for accountability of the two major World Bank-funded agriculture programs.
โAccording to McGill, concerns about accountability and transparency surrounding disbursement and management of these funds must be addressed – to ensure that the programs are delivering on their intended purposes of improving livelihoods of smallholder farmers and boosting Liberia’s agricultural sector.
โThe US$200 million World Bank funded project was meant for smallholder Agriculture Transformation and Agribusiness Revitalization Project (STAR-P) and the Rural Economic Transformation Project (RETRAP).
โ โThe Liberian Senate final decision on the above issue, will be hugely based on the outcome of the audit report – that will be submitted by the General Auditing Commission (GAC).
