
Monrovia, Liberia – The Amos C. Sawyer Educational Foundation is set to commemorate the life, works, and vision of the esteemed Prof. Dr. Amos C. Sawyer, marking his 80th birthday with a series of meaningful events this June.
According to a statement released by the Foundation, the celebrations will kick off with an inaugural lecture on Friday, June 13, at 3:30 p.m. at the Fendell campus, home to the Dr. Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities. This inaugural lecture will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Dew Tuan Wleh Mason, a distinguished academic and diplomat known for his contributions to Liberia’s progressive narrative.

The festivities will also include Jum-AH prayers at the Fish Market masjid on Friday, where Iman Ali Krayee will reflect on Dr. Sawyer’s influential life and vision, offering prayers for peace in a cherished interfaith tradition.
On Saturday, June 14, a fundraising dinner will take place in the ballroom of the Monrovia City Hall at 6 p.m. This event will honor two notable Liberians: Dr. Abba Karnga, recognized for his pioneering work in the Bassa language and Christian missionary efforts, and the late Prof. Agnes Nebo von Ballmoos, celebrated for her dedication to preserving Liberian folklore music. The esteemed Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee will serve as one of the key speakers at this prestigious gathering, which is expected to attract high-profile government officials and political figures from across Liberia.

The series of events will culminate with a dedication service on Sunday, June 15, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church on 10th Street in Sinkor, honoring Dr. Sawyer’s contributions and legacy in a spiritually uplifting environment.
