MONROVIA – The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has extended warm congratulations to Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon following his official confirmation as Speaker of the House of Representatives, describing his decision to step down and participate in the electoral process as a demonstration of exemplary leadership and democratic integrity.

In a press statement released Tuesday, the ANC lauded Koon’s actions as “a commendable act of leadership” that reflects a deep respect for the rule of law. The party emphasized that such adherence to legal and democratic procedures sets a positive precedent for governance in Liberia.

“The ANC believes Speaker Koon’s actions underscore the values of transparency, accountability, and democratic maturity,” the statement read. “We are encouraged by his willingness to subject himself to due process, and we look forward to engaging constructively with his leadership in the House.”

The party also commended the Supreme Court of Liberia for its timely and decisive intervention, which helped resolve the months-long standoff that had stalled legislative progress. “The Court’s role was pivotal in safeguarding the sanctity of our democratic institutions,” the ANC noted.

Additionally, the ANC extended appreciation to outgoing Speaker J. Fonati Koffa for what it termed a “gracious and dignified resignation,” acknowledging his willingness to place national interest above personal ambition.

While reiterating its commitment to work alongside President Joseph Boakai’s administration in areas that promote national development and the well-being of all Liberians, the ANC reaffirmed its position as a constructive opposition.

“We will support policies that uplift our people, but we will not hesitate to hold the government accountable where necessary,” the party stressed. “Our goal remains to ensure a Liberia that works for everyone, not just a privileged few.”

The ANC’s remarks come at a pivotal time as the country navigates complex socio-political challenges, with growing public demand for institutional reform, transparency, and economic advancement. The party’s latest position underscores a tone of collaboration tempered by vigilance—a signal of its evolving role in Liberia’s political landscape.
