MONROVIA – The Green Revolution of Liberia has condemned the ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘cowardly attempt’ by the Boakai regime to muzzle the voices of the Liberian people and trample upon their sacred right to freely assemble and petition their government.
The group’s Chairman, Varney Gbassey Kromah, said the press statement issued by the Ministry of Justice, is not only an affront to democratic order—it is a blatant violation of Article 17 of the 1986 Constitution.
“All persons, at all times, in an orderly and peaceable manner, shall have the right to assemble and consult upon the common good, to instruct their representatives, to petition the Government or other functionaries for the redress of grievances.”
“Let it be known across this nation and to the global community that no regime, no minister, and no self-interested clique of power-holders have the authority to revoke what the Constitution of Liberia has enshrined,” Kromah stressed.
He said the Boakai -led Administration’s desperate ploy to stifle dissent is a direct attack on the people’s power; adding: “We shall not stand down.”
“Let President Joseph Nyuma Boakai be warned: the streets of Liberia belong to the people, not to a palace guarded by fear and unconstitutional decrees. If you are uncomfortable with the people raising their voices against hardship, corruption, and deception, then you are unfit to lead a democratic nation.”
The Green Revolution Chairman further emphasized that any attempt to suppress peaceful assembly will be met with lawful but relentless civil resistance. “The people will mobilize. The people will rise. The people will occupy every space where freedom is threatened.”
“We call on the international community, the Liberian Council of Churches, the press, and all patriotic Liberians to stand with the people. Do not be silent. Do not be neutral. Neutrality in the face of oppression is complicity.”
