MONROVIA, Liberia — The National Chairman of the Patriotic Enterprise of Liberia (PATEL), Dominic Nimely, says the group will mobilize nationwide protests over what it calls chronic service failures by Orange Liberia and Lonestar Cell MTN, citing dropped calls, weak coverage and high prices.

“We have two GSM companies in our country, and many users are experiencing chronic issues with connectivity. People cannot make calls; they often have to dial several times for a single connection, which is unacceptable,” Nimely told reporters.

He said frustrations are particularly acute outside major urban areas and even in parts of Greater Monrovia. “In areas like Congo Town and Paynesville, users have described trying to make a basic phone call as an exercise in futility,” he said, calling for urgent network upgrades and better customer responsiveness. “You can’t even get someone to call you back, and this makes performing regular business operations incredibly challenging. Telecommunication is a vital lifeline for any economy.”

Nimely also criticized pricing as disproportionate to service quality. “We pay too much for services that simply do not work. This is a matter of national concern, and we will not stand idly by while the situation persists,” he said.

He said he plans to meet the head of the Telecommunications Authority to press for regulatory intervention and accountability. “We need to see changes made; if they cannot provide the service quality we deserve, we will push for accountability,” Nimely said, adding that PATEL will continue organizing until users see measurable improvements.
