MONROVIA, Liberia — Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay on Tuesday inducted a slate of magistrates assigned to courts across 12 counties, calling on them to uphold integrity, impartiality, and diligence as they assume frontline roles in Liberia’s justice system.
“The judgments of magistrates must promote peace, justice, equity, and fairness,” the Chief Justice said, adding that investor confidence often hinges on a judiciary’s credibility. He cautioned that the Bench he leads “remains one of discipline and commitment” and acknowledged ongoing reforms to address tardiness and other internal challenges.
Liberia National Bar Association President Cllr. Bono Varmah reaffirmed the Bar’s commitment to rule of law, access to justice, and service, urging magistrates to protect independence from political and financial pressures, pursue continuous learning through CLE and mentorship, and safeguard human rights and due process. “Justice cannot be delivered in isolation,” he said, pledging LNBA support through advocacy and pro bono work.
Speaking for the National Association of Trial Judges, Judge Nancy Sammie called the induction another step toward broader access to justice, encouraging discipline, impartiality, and professionalism to uphold the dignity of the bench.
