Flashback: Labor Minister Counselor Cooper Kruah instructing Labor Inspectors just before they headed into the field

Monrovia, Liberia — The Civil Society and Trade Union Institutions of Liberia, under the leadership of Program Director Jefferson B. Knight, wishes to express grave concerns regarding recent developments at the Ministry of Labor. We are calling on President Joseph Boakai to take swift action by replacing Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah and his entire team due to their gross disregard for national interests, corruption, and abuse of power.

It has come to our attention that Minister Kruah has knowingly authorized the sale of over 8,000 work permits to foreign nationals, despite the fact that millions of Liberians remain unemployed and are desperately seeking job opportunities. Such an act is not only a betrayal of the national interest but also an egregious violation of the principles of fairness, justice, and economic development. This reckless action effectively robs Liberian workers of their rightful opportunities and undermines efforts to foster sustainable economic growth.

We condemn this blatant disregard for the welfare of the Liberian people and view it as an act of economic sabotage. These actions have severely damaged the credibility of the Ministry of Labor and have contributed to the suffering of countless Liberians who are unable to find gainful employment.

Furthermore, we welcome the decision by the Liberia Senate to initiate an investigation into this matter. We strongly urge the Senate to conduct a thorough inquiry and to consider a vote of no confidence in Minister Kruah to ensure accountability and transparency.

The Ministry of Labor plays a crucial role in shaping the economic future of Liberia. Its leadership must uphold integrity, transparency, and the highest standards of public service. Minister Kruah’s actions have seriously undermined these principles, and it is imperative that he be held accountable.

We call on President Joseph Boakai to act decisively by replacing Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah with a leadership team committed to protecting the rights of Liberian workers, fostering job creation, and promoting economic development that benefits all Liberians.

The suffering of our people cannot be ignored. It is time for decisive leadership to restore integrity and confidence in our labor sector.
