LEAD Monrovia Football Academy’s impressive unbeaten run in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Lower Women’s League came to an end on Saturday, May 17, 2025, as Republic FC secured a 3-1 victory at Tusa Field.
The defeat brought a close to a 12-match unbeaten streak for the league leaders, who had dominated through 13 rounds of play.
Notably absent from the squad was LEAD’s prolific striker Coslyn Bardy, the league’s top scorer with 23 goals in just 12 matches.
Bardy’s absence due to her national team duties with the Liberia Women’s National Team at the 2025 WAFU-A Women’s Cup in Nouakchott, Mauritania, was clearly felt as the Academy struggled to convert key opportunities.
The match was intense from the start. Republic FC opened the scoring through Faith Haggins, but LEAD responded quickly with an equalizer from winger Marvis Cole, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Republic FC capitalized on LEAD’s missed chances. Fatu Seafay restored Republic’s lead, followed by a penalty and a stunning free kick from Gabrielle Sabina to seal the 3-1 victory.
Despite her efforts and usual playmaking brilliance, Marvis Cole known for her pinpoint passes to Bardy was denied multiple times by Republic FC’s resolute defense.
LEAD Monrovia Academy remains atop the table with 30 points, just one ahead of Republic FC, who sit at 29.
With five matches remaining, the title race is heating up.
As fans question whether LEAD can retain their championship without Bardy, the pressure now falls on Tracy Haword and Marvis Cole to keep the dream alive.
With both teams locked in a tight contest, every game going forward is essentially a final.
