-Senator Snowe Hails Party’s Democratic Values, Calls for Unity
Kakata, Margibi County — The Alternative National Congress (ANC), led by former Coca-Cola executive Alexander B. Cummings, on Saturday opened its 4th National Convention in Kakata, Margibi County, with renewed calls for party unity, leadership renewal, and a stronger opposition front.
The three-day gathering brings together delegates from across Liberia to elect new leaders and redefine the party’s direction ahead of future elections. It marks the first major convention since the ANC’s disappointing 2023 presidential bid, in which Cummings secured just 1.61 percent of the national vote.
In a goodwill message to the convention, Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. commended the ANC for sustaining internal democracy and its continued advocacy for transparency and reform in national politics.

“This convention marks yet another important step in strengthening your internal democratic values, renewing leadership, and building unity around Liberia’s shared future,” Senator Snowe said, adding that he joined the event “in spirit as a proud member of the opposition community.”
Party sources say all key positions — including Political Leader, National Chairman, and Vice Chairs — have been declared vacant to allow delegates to freely elect new officers.
The ANC, founded in 2013, first contested Liberia’s 2017 general elections, earning about 7 percent of the presidential vote. It later joined the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) alliance in 2023 but failed to make a significant electoral impact.
Observers say the Kakata convention could mark a turning point for the party as it seeks to rebuild structures, reconnect with the electorate, and reposition itself as a viable opposition force ahead of 2029.
