MONROVIA – The Executive Director of the Liberia Diplomatic Think Tank (LiDTT) is calling on all Liberians to come out on June 3, 2025 wearing the national colors in celebration of Liberia’s victory for the UN Security Council Non-Permanent member seat.

Amos Williams says this will send a strong message of support of unity from citizens in affirmation for Liberia’s UNSC candidacy.

The LiDTT Executive Director also noted that this will strengthen national unity and civil pride.

Williams, who is also a student of International Relations and Contemporary Diplomacy, stressed that Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council is a historic and strategic opportunity to reassert the country’s voice in Global Peace and Security matters.

The young diplomat in training further said, “Liberia as a nation has just transitioned from conflict to peace through democratic governance, and therefore Liberia’s candidacy represents not just a national pride, but a symbol of Africa resilience, good governance and leadership.”

Liberia’s bid for the 2026–2027 term has garnered significant backing, including endorsements from the African Union and ECOWAS.

The campaign has also received bipartisan support from former Presidents Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former President George M. Weah including opposition political party leaders and other eminent patriotic Liberians at home and abroad, highlighting a unified national effort to elevate Liberia’s standing on the global stage.

Meanwhile, a celebratory event, dubbed “Diplomatic Pride Night,” is scheduled at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia, featuring cultural performances and discussions on Liberia’s legacy at the UN. Liberia’s election to the UNSC is seen as a testament to its commitment to peace, democracy, and international cooperation. As a nation that has transitioned from conflict to stability, Liberia aims to contribute meaningfully to global discussions on peace and security.
