MONROVIA – The Executive Director of the Lady Justice Center of Liberia, a local non-profit organization, is calling on the Government of Liberia to take strong legal action against individuals operating substandard clinics and hospitals across the country. According to Ms. Hawa Metzger, simply shutting down these facilities is not enough if those responsible for endangering the lives of citizens are not held accountable.
Speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Monrovia, Ms. Metzger emphasized that the government must not stop at closure orders alone. She stressed the importance of prosecuting those who operate these fake health centers, which she said are responsible for a growing number of medical negligence cases.
Ms. Metzger cited the case of 37-year-old Assata Kromah, a mother of four, who is now battling severe health complications following a surgical operation conducted at Triple MS Medical and Surgical Clinic in Kabbah Community, Barnesville, Montserrado County, in October 2024.
According to Ms. Metzger, Ms. Kromah continues to suffer daily pain and urgently needs financial help to undergo a corrective surgical procedure at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Sinkor.
“What kind of person claims to be a surgical doctor yet ends up destroying the lives of citizens instead of saving them?” Ms. Metzger asked. “People like these must be stopped and brought to justice if we are serious about protecting our citizens.”
Ms. Kromah has formally lodged a complaint with the Lady Justice Center of Liberia, accusing the clinic of medical negligence. She recounted her experience, stating:

“On October 25, 2024, I went to Triple MS Clinic due to severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. I explained my symptoms to Dr. Musa Kamara, who diagnosed me with a growth/appendicitis. He told me I needed urgent surgery, which cost US$300. I paid in full and underwent the surgery.”
However, Ms. Kromah revealed that her symptoms persisted after the surgery. She returned to the clinic the very next day, still experiencing severe pain and bleeding.
“I went back to the clinic for follow-up care,” she continued, “but I was told to return the following day. Since then, I have received no further treatment or attention.”
Ms. Metzger added that when Ms. Kromah returned yet again to the clinic, Dr. Kamara dismissed her concerns, telling her, “The work is done,” without offering any additional checkup or treatment.
When contacted about the allegations, Dr. Musa Kamara neither confirmed nor denied the claims.
“I can’t speak on this matter because the case is with the Liberia Medical Council,” he said. “Also, I’m currently performing surgery at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, so I can’t speak further at this time.”
The Lady Justice Center of Liberia is now appealing to the relevant government agencies and health authorities to intervene swiftly and ensure that justice is served, not just for Assata Kromah, but for all other victims of alleged medical malpractice.
