Commander-In-Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), Emmanuel Gonquoi has commissioned his Montserrado Command

MONROVIA – The Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), led by their Chairman, Commander-In-Chief (CIC) Emmanuel Gonquoi, has issued a stern warning to the current Unity Party-led Administration, declaring that their party, often referred to as the “sleepy lion,” is poised for a comeback. This declaration comes after two years of perceived government inaction and unmet promises to the citizens of Liberia.

The EFFL CIC spoke on Saturday, June 21, in Monrovia during the commissioning program of the Montserrado County command of the party. Gonquoi expressed the EFFL’s frustrations regarding the Unity Party’s governance, stating, “The Sleepy Lion Is Not a Dead Lion.” He emphasized the party’s dissatisfaction with the government’s performance, noting that they have failed to address the pressing needs of the public. “We have watched closely as the Unity Party has squandered the trust of the people. It is time for accountability and action,” Gonquoi stated.

The EFFL, a party known for its advocacy for economic reform and social justice, has publicly called out the government for not being responsive to its concerns. Gonquoi highlighted the lack of communication from government officials, revealing that attempts to reach out to ministers have often gone unanswered. “Whenever we pick up our phones and call a minister, they do not bother to answer our calls. But very soon, we will be coming for them,” he warned, suggesting that the EFFL may take action to confront these leaders.

In an implicit threat to the Unity Party Administration, Gonquoi reassured supporters that the EFFL is prepared to stand firm against any intimidation from government forces, including the Liberia National Police (LNP), the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), and the National Security Agency (NSA). “We are not afraid; we are returning very soon. We are watching you, Mr. President,” he declared, making it clear that the EFFL intends to play an active role in the political landscape as the nation approaches upcoming elections.

Political analysts view the EFFL’s resurgence as a critical reaction to widespread public discontent with the current administration. With economic challenges and rising concerns among the populace, the EFFL’s warning serves as a reminder of the potential for significant political shifts in the Liberian landscape. As the EFFL gears up for what it promises will be a robust political engagement, the Unity Party faces increasing pressure to deliver on its commitments to the Liberian people. The next few months are set to be crucial for both parties as they navigate the complexities of governance and public sentiment in Liberia.
