MONROVIA – In a dramatic turn of events, John Nyanti, a suspect linked to the December 18, 2024 arson attack on the Capitol Building, has been extradited back to Liberia amid serious allegations against the government. Upon his arrival in Monrovia, Nyanti accused government officials of attempting to bribe him with US$200,000 to provide false testimony against former Speaker Fonati Koffa and others involved in the incident.
Nyanti, who had managed to escape following the Capitol Building attack, was escorted by heavily armed police officers when he was brought to the Monrovia City Court. His extradition marks a significant development in a case that has stirred considerable public interest and controversy.

Speaking to reporters after his arrival, Nyanti alleged, โThey offered me a substantial amount of money to lie. I am here to tell the truth, not to be part of a political game.โ His claims, if proven true, could have significant implications for the current administration and its handling of the Capitol arson case.
The allegations come at a time when political tensions in Liberia are high, with various factions jockeying for influence in the lead-up to upcoming elections. Koffa, who has been a prominent figure in the political landscape, has not yet responded to Nyantiโs accusations publicly.
Legal experts indicate that if the bribery claims are substantiated, they could lead to serious investigations into the actions of government officials. The government, as of now, has not issued a formal statement addressing Nyanti’s allegations.

Meanwhile, Nyantiโs case is set to continue in court as both sides prepare for what promises to be a contentious legal battle. Observers are closely watching the developments, as the outcome could shape the political dynamics in Liberia in the months leading up to the elections.
As the court proceedings unfold, calls for transparency and accountability within the government are expected to grow louder, with citizens demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged corruption and the circumstances surrounding the Capitol arson.
