MONROVIA – Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus, the former Solicitor General of Liberia, was issued a ticket on Monday, May 12, by the Liberia National Police officers who were assigned on 10th Street, Sinkor.
The ticket was issued for allegedly operating a vehicle with expired documents, which is in violation of road regulations.
During the encounter, Cllr. Cephus reportedly referred to the police officers involved as “hungry police,” a comment that has raised concerns regarding the public perception of law enforcement in the community.

This remark may reflect underlying tensions between the public and police institutions, particularly concerning the enforcement of traffic laws and the general state of law enforcement in Liberia.
Expired vehicle documents can include a lapsed vehicle registration, insurance, or inspection tags, all of which are necessary for compliance with Liberian traffic laws. Driving with such documents can lead to fines, legal repercussions, or further complications with law enforcement agencies.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in Liberia, including issues of public trust and the perception of police conduct. It also emphasizes the importance of adherence to vehicle regulations for all citizens, including public figures.
Legal considerations Cllr. Cephus has the right to contest the ticket in accordance with local traffic laws if he believes it was unjustly issued.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining valid vehicle documentation and fostering positive interactions between the police and the communities they serve.
