Former Solicitor General Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus was ticketed for driving with expired documents

MONROVIA – In a noteworthy ruling from the Monrovia Traffic Court, Cllr. Syrenius Cephus, the former Solicitor General of Liberia, has been found guilty of operating a vehicle with expired registration and lacking a visible rear license plate.

The court’s decision comes after a traffic stop on May 10, 2025, on 10th Street in Sinkor, where Cephus was cited by Police Inspector Ben Johnson for violations of Liberia’s Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The vehicle in question, identified by license plate number A58327, was also noted to have an invalid Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of KNALM4158BCA060358.

During the proceedings, Traffic Court Judge Korser Zubah emphasized that the vehicle’s registration had expired as of midnight on April 24, 2025. This was ruled a direct violation of Section 3.7 of Liberia’s Vehicle and Traffic Law.

In delivering the verdict, Judge Zubah imposed a fine of US$50, which Cephus is required to pay within 72 hours. To regain his driver’s license, the former Solicitor General must also provide proof of payment to the court.

This case highlights the ongoing commitment of Liberian authorities to enforce traffic regulations, regardless of an individual’s status, and serves as a reminder of the necessity for all drivers to adhere to the laws of the road.
