As the much-anticipated Intra-Governmental League continues across Monrovia, Liberia’s Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Gbeme Horace-Kollie, is calling on organizers, participants, and government agencies to use the event as a platform to speak against workplace harassment and to promote the inclusion of women in sports leadership roles.
In a statement delivered recently, the MoGCSP’s boss emphasized that Gender-Based Violence (GBV) continues to be a grave threat to the well-being and livelihoods of women across the country. She described the League as more than just a sporting event, stressing that it is a national gathering that can amplify important social messages.
“Gender-Based Violence is not only a violation of human rights, but a major barrier to women’s participation in national development,” the Minister stated. “This League presents a powerful opportunity to demonstrate our collective commitment to safe and inclusive workplaces, free from harassment and intimidation.”
The Minister urged all Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions to strengthen and fully empower their Gender and Inclusion Units (GSIU). She said these units must take a leading role in promoting gender equality within the public sector and in ensuring women have the opportunity to lead across technical and decision-making spaces.
She also encouraged women across the public sector not to remain silent in the face of workplace violence, harassment, or intimidation. She urged them to report such incidents by calling the 116 toll-free hotline, assuring that all information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality and that their identities will be fully protected.
“We must create a culture of accountability and support. No woman should suffer in silence,” she emphasized.
Additionally, she challenged technical teams and sports leadership across government to break down systemic barriers and actively involve women in leadership roles, both on and off the field.
“Let us make this year’s Intra-Governmental League a turning point, not just for sportsmanship and inter-agency collaboration, but for advancing gender equality in every corner of government,” she added.
The Intra-Governmental League brings together public servants from across Liberia to compete in various sporting disciplines aimed at building unity, wellness, and cross-sector collaboration.
